3 Medications to Treat Erectile Dysfunction

Everything Men Need to Know About  Erectile Dysfunction Medication

Is erectile dysfunction making a healthy and fulfilling sex life impossible to achieve? You’re not alone in your struggle.

Erectile dysfunction is a disorder characterized by the inability to produce or maintain an erection This condition can occur at any age, although it is more common in older men over the age of 50. Due to the substantial amount of negative effects relating to both you and your partner, this issue is becoming more prevalent as more and more men seek diagnosis and treatment.

What’s worse, ED can lead to a variety of adverse consequences including stress, relationship problems, low self-esteem, and the inability to conceive without medical intervention. Luckily, medical treatment can help to restore erectile function, giving you back a satisfying sex life and the confidence that comes with it.

We offer three popular medications for the treatment of ED. They work by inhibiting a chemical in the body called phosphodiesterase type-5, allowing the blood vessels to relax. As a result, this increases blood flow to the penis which can encourage lasting erections. It is important to note, however, that the medications only work when sexually stimulated — and are not for increasing sex drive.

Continue reading to learn more about each medication we offer, including administration methods, effectiveness, and more.

Sildenafil (Viagra) for Erectile Dysfunction

Sildenafil, popularly known by its brand name Viagra, is recognized by its trademark blue color. Created by Pfizer Inc, it was the first medication to hit the market for the treatment of ED. The drug was FDA approved back in 1998 and continues to be the most well-known erectile dysfunction medication out there.

How to Administer Viagra

Sildenafil can be administered as a liquid, injection, or most commonly, in the form of a pill. The typical dose starts at 25 mg and can be increased to 100 mg, if needed. One of our physicians can determine the correct dose for you based on the severity of your symptoms and past medical history. For best results, it is recommended to take Sildenafil roughly one hour before sexual activity, however, it can be taken between 30 minutes and 4 hours prior.

Effectiveness of Viagra

Sildenafil has been proven to be extremely effective for the treatment of ED, regardless of age. According to clinical evidence, Sildenafil resulted in successful intercourse in 77% of men who received a 50 mg dose and 84% of men who were given a 100 mg dose. The results led to higher satisfaction for both the patients and their partners as compared to a placebo.

Tadalafil (Cialis) for Erectile Dysfunction

Many men prefer to continuously take Tadalafil as it allows for a more spontaneous sex life. The most common doses for daily use are 2.5 and 5 mg, while the typical dose for on-demand use ranges from 5 mg to 20 mg.

Effectiveness of Cialis

Tadalafil has been proven to produce effective results from 30 minutes to up to 36 hours after receiving the medication. According to a scientific study of the drug, Tadalafil was shown to be successful in 70% of patients who took a 10 mg dose and 81% of men who received a 20 mg dose.
