Symptoms of Male Hormonal Imbalance You Should Know
A Guide to Hormonal Imbalances in Men
Did you know that two out of 100 men in the United States suffer from low testosterone? Low testosterone is one of the main causes of hormonal imbalances in men, although there may occasionally be other causes. If you don’t know what to look for, you might not know what a hormonal imbalance looks or feels like.
So, how can you know if you have a hormonal imbalance? And, what are the symptoms and what can you do about them? Keep reading and learn more about the symptoms of hormonal imbalances in men.
1. Low Sex Drive
Having a low sex drive is one of the primary signs of a hormonal imbalance in men. This usually has to do with low testosterone levels in particular. This is because testosterone levels strongly correlate with a person’s sex drive.
Men who have average testosterone levels or high testosterone levels tend to have a greater desire for sex.

On the other hand, men with low testosterone levels may be uninterested in sex most of the time. Even if a man wants to have sex, he may find it difficult to get an erection. Achieving and maintaining an erection is also impacted by low testosterone levels.
If a man is only occasionally uninterested in sex, then this may not be a problem. However, if a man is constantly uninterested in sex, this is a cause for concern and most likely has something to do with an imbalance in male hormones.
Causes of Low Sex Drive for Men
Low testosterone levels may happen for a variety of reasons. Some men may naturally produce low levels of testosterone compared to other men, or there may be some kind of problem in the brain that prevents the brain from signaling to the body to produce more male hormones. Whatever the case, most imbalances in male hormones can be resolved.
To fix the problem, all you need to do is try hormone replacement therapy or a similar treatment option. The goal of this therapy is to supply a man with more testosterone so that his body functions in a healthy way. By increasing your testosterone levels, your sex drive will also increase.
In some cases, this type of therapy may fix the problem of erectile dysfunction as well, but the result depends on the cause of a man’s erectile dysfunction. Some men may experience problems like poor blood flow that could be the cause of erectile dysfunction and not an imbalance of hormones. . Whatever the case, hormone therapy provides great benefits and is often the answer for low testosterone.
2. Weight Gain
More often than not, men who suffer from a hormonal imbalance will start to gain weight to a certain extent. Again, this is due to the balance of testosterone in contrast to other hormones in the body.
Testosterone helps the male body to stay lean and muscular. This is why men (who have more testosterone) tend to be leaner and more muscular than women (who have lower levels of testosterone). However, if a man’s testosterone levels start to drop, he may start to gain weight and become less muscular. In particular, a man with a hormonal imbalance may start to gain weight in parts of the body where women usually gain weight.
For example, when a healthy man with normal testosterone levels gains weight, he will usually gain weight in his stomach rather than in other parts of the body.
On the other hand, women tend to gain weight in the hips, breasts, thighs, and upper arms. When a man with low testosterone levels gains weight, he will be more likely to gain weight in his hips, chest, thighs, and upper arms in a similar manner as women.
The Difference in Weight Distribution
This may be unnoticeable at first, but if you happen to gain a lot of weight, this pattern of distribution will become more noticeable. The weight gain associated with a hormonal imbalance is often hard to control. You might eat as much as you usually do but you may start to gain a lot of weight regardless.
Even if you cut back on your diet or start to exercise more, you may still find it difficult to lose weight or even maintain weight.
For that reason, if you suspect that your weight gain is due to a hormonal imbalance, you should try to seek hormonal therapy as soon as possible.
3. Weaker Muscles and Muscle Mass Loss

Testosterone levels have a lot to do with a man’s muscle mass. Healthy levels of testosterone will allow a man to have naturally strong and dense muscles. As mentioned before, testosterone allows a man to stay relatively lean and have dense muscles without much effort.
However, if your testosterone levels start to drop, you may start to notice that your muscles are not as strong as they used to be. This is often observed in elderly men. As a man ages, his testosterone levels will start to drop and his muscles will become weaker.
However, some young men also experience this problem if their testosterone levels are unusually low. If you think that your muscles are starting to get weaker without any obvious cause, it may have to do with low testosterone levels. For that reason, you should get the problem checked out and treated.
